Players like Lionel Messi enjoy leverage in La Liga: Filipe Luis

Whenever a star player is stuck with any kind of controversy, it is obvious his stardom would help him ease with lots of things that could otherwise land him in problem and this is something that itch not so famous players and so they raise their strong objection over this tradition being followed by the soccer fraternity. Last month’s Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid was one such game that saw rather a minor collision between left-back Filipe Luis and Messi that cost Brazil international a straight Red Card for his tackle over the Argentine international. Since Messi was the victim, disciplinary committee acted too fast and slapped a three-match ban over 30-year-old which later reduced to one game after official appeal by the Vicente Calderón side. Does not matter if it was a mistake of referee, everyone was grossly favoring five time FIFA Player of the year without any empathy to the Atletico defender who nonetheless got the support of his side later on.

Recalling the incident that was prejudicially handled by the disciplinary committee, 30-year-old told in a TV interview, “It was a red card, it was not a mistake by the referee, it was a red card. I went out on the field and that was it, a one-match suspension and I served it.

“I was not late, I went after the ball. Now that type of play happens during every match, but because it was with Messi and because here he is the darling of the media and La Liga, obviously no one wants to see one of the best players of all time taken out. No one wants to miss a chance to see him play and that is why all of this happened.”

Looking at the heat generated by the controversy and if La Liga carries any partiality to star players, president Javier Tebas spoke last Monday and favored their impartial practices to inquire any in-ground controversy, he said, “For us, all the players are protected in La Liga. We don’t differentiate between Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo or a player from Rayo Vallecano. We are creating a global league and the big and small clubs all matter to us.”

It doesn’t matter what any of the two sides is saying now, it is true that star players enjoy some leverage whenever they are involved in any controversy – remember former Liverpool player Suarez’s biting episode during World cup and how Reds tried their hard to let it go until severe pressure built up over the disciplinary committee to ban him for his inhuman act on ground?

Bale brilliant show amazed Real Madrid coach

Bale finally played his debut home game for his new club Real Madrid and made his owners proud of him thanks to his two brilliant goals in recent La Liga game against Sevilla where they almost crushed oldest Spanish club. Looking at the form of world’s priciest player, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is specifically excited not only by Bale’s show but also for his first complete run of ninety minutes in Spain. It has been around two months Welsh footballer made a shift from Tottenham to Spanish giant at a record breaking fee, but his foot and thigh injuries restricted him enter in full swing in the field. Ancelotti said after the match praising their eye candy, “Bale played well, he looked really good scoring goals and showing a good understanding with Cristiano. In no time we’ll be a good, compact team. Everyone saw the real Gareth. He showed fantastic skills. It takes time to adapt but it was a necessity. Now he doesn’t have problems physically and he is improving his confidence, so he will be very important for us in the future.”

Apart from Bale, well known Ronaldo and Benzema were the other two scorers of the game; in fact, Ronaldo scored a hat trick with the help of Bale while Benzema enhanced the lead by another two goals. As far Unai Emery’s team is concerned, Rakitic, Pen, and Bacca put some resistance by scoring three goals but it proved to be insufficient in front of Real’s firing attack. Despite their brilliant show, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is still on the third place in La Liga tally, while their arch rival Barcelona is comfortably sitting on the top spot. Second spot is occupied by Atlético Madrid who has played one less game but earned two more points from The Vikings.

Bale is also happy after seeing his coach is satisfied with his performance, he expressed his feelings after the match and said, “I showed what I was capable of tonight. It was a crazy game to be involved in but the most important thing for us is to get the three points. We let in a few goals we were disappointed about, but we bounced back and got the win.”

The jubilant midfielder still affirms he still have to show his one hundred percent for his new home, however, next few matches will probably bring him back to his well-known form and he can return what Real’s bosses would have expected from him.

Neymar’s dad gets £35m from Barca as commission

There has been a running dispute among all the stakeholders having an interest in Santos’ young sensation Neymar since he signed a five year deal with Barcelona. In fact, some of them were also threatening to go to the court if Brazilin club does not declare who will get what out of total amount paid by the Spanish giant for Neymar’s 100% rights. Everybody knows that Barca has agreed to pay a total sum of £49m to Santos for gaining full rights of the forward, but since Santo did not have the full rights in the player; other stake holders were also worried about their share out of this amount. But now, Barca has declared that it has paid Neymar’s dad a sum of £35m as commission including the sum they had given in the last year, and remaining amount would be distributed among other key interest holders: Santos, DIS, and Teisa. Reportedly, latter two had 40% and 5% stake in player’s proceeds; hence they look to be finally getting something out of this mega transfer deal. Reports are also coming in from DIS den that they want more share out of total deal amount between Santos and La Liga champions, in fact, they want to have all the deal papers to see what the actual amount is and how it is decided to be distributed. Supermarket giant’s executive Director Roberto Moreno said to a news source that “I’ve not been shown a single document, so I will go to Santos’ headquarters tomorrow. After that we will decide if we need to go to the courts. I’ve read lots of things in the media but seen no documentary evidence.”

Actually, the total pay package, apparently, has something extra for the Brazilian club if Neymar could secure a place in top three players in Ballon d’Or ranking within next five years. Accordingly, Blaugrana will pay additional two millions for the achievement to his former club. In last two years, Neymar could only settle himself on 10th and 13th spots in Ballon d’Or ranking, so it could be a reality to see him in the top players of 2013.

As far his closest competitor Lionel Messi is concerned; he has won the inaugural three editions of the Ballon d’Or along with winning Player of the Year award in 2009. Additionally, he has more records, which could be on the target line for the new entrant to the La Liga club.

Messi Brakes over eighty-year old record

He became the only player to score in straight seventeen La Laiga games breaking Pole Teodor Pewterek’s 1937-38 record of scoring in 16 straight games for his club Ruch Chorzow. Barcelona’s last La Liga match against Deportivo La Coruna became the memorable one where Barca won comprehensively by 2-0. Barcelona informed about Messi’s another big achievement through its official website where they mentioned,

“Leo Messi broke another record this evening. Despite the fact that he didn’t start, Barça’s number 10 once again found the back of the net, which means he’s scored in 17 consecutive La Liga matches. Messi’s newest feat is unrivaled in football, no other player has scored consecutively in as many league matches.

“With his goal against Deportivo, Messi broke the record set by Teodor Pewterek, who scored in 16 consecutive league matches between 1937 and 1938. In those 16 matches, the Ruch Chorzów player scored 22 goals, according to Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation.”

As mentioned, Barca put on a brief comparison between two record holders: Messi and Teodor Pewterek stating Messi scored 27 goals in last seventeen league matches while Pewterek had scored 22 goals during his sixteen played matches during 1937-38. Moreover, Messi’s affords are also worthwhile looking at the time he spent on the field; perhaps he was there just for 32 minutes and he utilized each second of it to enhance his sore tally in consecutive matches. Barca also mentioned, “Messi started his goalscoring streak on Week 11 of the league, in the match against Mallorca, where he scored two goals. Since then, he’s netted 27 times in 17 matches (1.58 goals per match). Overall in the league, Messi is the leading scorer with 40 goals, ahead of Cristiano (24) and Falcao (21). Counting all official competitions, Messi has scored 51 goals.”

Messi stretches Barca’s lead to 15 points at top

Lionel Messi

Barcelona extends its lead to 15 points from second placeholder Atletico Madrid in the La Liga – thanks to its score machine that again proved why they are the best in contemporary soccer. David Villa and Messi scored for Barca while Alberto Botia scored the only goal for Sevilla who eventually lost the game by 2-1. Barca again came from behind; once they were training by one goal; but, first, striker Villa equalized the lead in the 52nd minute and then Messi scored the winner in the 60th minute for La Liga champions. Messi has now probably become the only player to score in 15 consecutive games. Barca has now won 11 out of its 12 home games which ahead it by 16 points from defending champion Real Madrid who is now placed at third place with its 52 points out of 25 played matches. Barca will clash with its arch rival Real Madrid on Tuesday. Thereafter, Madrid will host Barca on Saturday in the Spanish league. Though, Atletico Madrid has to play its 25th match with Espanyol on Sunday, it has chances to reduce the gap from Barca if it manages to defeat Espanyol.

Actually, Barca could not prove its dominance over Sevilla especially in the first half when they were trailing by one goal. Things were not in favor of it; perhaps match was looking like a recap of its 2-0 loss to Milan in the Champions league. But, second half changed the whole picture in Barca favor when two of its main strikers find the net. Messi talked about their next crucial match with Real Madrid later, he said, “Madrid has an incredible team and we will have to be at our best to reach the final. We will have to play like we always do and not let the Milan game affect us. You could see we came into this game off a poor result, but we were able to pull out the win. It’s tough not to think about Milan. We know we didn’t play our best game in the San Siro, even if it wasn’t a reason to completely fall apart.”

He also praised Villa’s role in current win and said he helped him striking the ball more confidently, he added, “Against Milan we didn’t create many chances. Today, with Villa as a reference up front, their defenders had to stay put and that opened up spaces for me behind.” Anyways, everyone seems to be eyeing on their next high profile match with Madrid where we’ll see actual strength of Barca against Real defense.
